It’s Monday 1st September at 10.30 p.m. GMT and we are crossing the North Sea. I’m writing this update offline in my cabin on board of the P&O ferry Pride of Hull. There’s no open Internet connection on board and since we are at full sea, I can’t use my mobile phone to send Twitter updates either.
This morning I left Brussels by train to join my friends in Turnhout (near Antwerp). Together with 40 co-travellers we drove to Rotterdam by bus.
Since I carried my bag with notebook and accessories, I typically was one of the few people who had to pass a security check. Of course everything was alright, but I don’t like to be treated as a criminal although I know it’s for general safety that they are doing this checks. I once had to open up my bag while queueing for the Eurostar from London to Brussels and only five minutes or so to get on the train.
On board of the Pride of Hull we checked in and put our luggage in our cabins. I am staying in room 313 on deck 10. We had dinner in the buffet restaurant. I ate carrot soup, a lamb stew with Basmati rice and I had a Sticky Date pudding with custard for dessert. Both pudding and custard sauce are served warm. I’m still wondering about the ingredients of the Sticky Date pudding. It was very sweet and probably contained brown sugar. I’m a sweet tooth, so I liked it very much.
At about 9.00 p.m. local time the ship left the port of Rotterdam. A lot of people were on the outer deck to watch the departure and make some pictures. Afterwards we had a drink and a chat in the Irish Bar. We went to our cabins at 10.15 p.m. GMT (11.15 p.m. Rotterdam time).
Tomorrow we’ll have to get up at 6.30 a.m..We arrive in Hull at about 8.00 a.m. I hope to be better tomorrow, because today I still suffered from a cold and a sore troat.
